About Amy: The SLP Who Has Rebuilt a Practice More Times Than Disney Has Parades
If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s this: I’m a woman who can adapt. I started out at the University of Florida (Go Gators!) where I earned degrees in both Psychology and Spanish—because why study one way the brain works when you can study two?
I went on to earn my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from Kean University in 2000, back when we still printed out therapy materials and laminators were considered high-tech. From there, I spent time in both public and private schools, gathering clinical experience and stories that would later fuel my private practice dreams.
Along the way, I also returned to Kean University as an adjunct instructor, teaching a course called “Technology and the SLP,” where I helped future clinicians embrace the digital tools that make our work smarter, smoother, and (let’s be honest) way more fun.
In 2004, those dreams officially took shape when Kidspeak was born in New Jersey. It started as a humble part-time practice and quickly grew—only to be lovingly packed up when my husband’s career charted a new course for our family. (Spoiler alert: this becomes a theme.)
In 2006, we headed to Florida, and by 2007, I rebuilt Kidspeak into a thriving full-time practice in Jacksonville. Then in 2011, we relocated again—this time to Orlando. Yes, that Orlando. And yes, I reopened my practice there too, resisting the urge to make all the therapy goals Disney-themed.
Fast forward to 2019, and another career opportunity for my husband brought our family to the DMV. I took a deep breath, unpacked the boxes, and—you guessed it—rebuilt my practice again. At this point, starting over in a new state isn’t just something I’ve survived… it’s something I’ve mastered
Through every relocation, every reinvention, and hundreds of clients served, I’ve learned how to grow a practice from scratch, keep it thriving, and do it with clarity, confidence, and a decent amount of caffeine. That’s why I started coaching and mentoring: to help other SLPs and myofunctional therapists build the practices they dream about—without having to move across the country three times to learn how.
If you want guidance from someone who’s built, rebuilt, and re-rebuilt a successful practice—and kept her sense of humor intact—I’m your girl. Let’s make your next professional chapter your strongest one yet.
