The Lindamood Phonemic Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program
The Lindamood Phonemic Sequencing® (LiPS®) Program is a powerful, multisensory approach that helps individuals understand how speech sounds are formed—right at the source: the mouth. Instead of relying only on listening or looking at letters, LiPS® teaches children to feel the differences between sounds by focusing on the exact lip, tongue, and jaw movements that create them.
This unique “mouth-awareness” approach helps students identify, compare, and correct sounds in words, which leads to stronger reading, spelling, and speech production skills. Once children understand how sounds are physically made, they become far more able to self-monitor, self-correct, and build lasting phonemic awareness.
LiPS® is particularly effective for learners who struggle with:
Dyslexia and decoding difficulties
Weak phonemic awareness
Speech sound disorders
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
Language-based learning challenges
Difficulty distinguishing similar sounds
Reading comprehension and spelling delays
One of the most compelling features of LiPS® is its rapid progress. Many individuals gain several grade levels in decoding within just 4–6 weeks of intensive instruction. Others who have “hit a plateau” in traditional speech or literacy therapy often experience breakthroughs when LiPS® is introduced.
At KidSpeak Therapy, we integrate LiPS® with structured literacy, speech therapy, and phonological intervention to help children build strong, automatic sound–symbol connections. This approach supports students in becoming confident, independent readers, writers, and communicators.
We proudly serve families in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Rockville, and the greater DMV area, as well as online clients in Florida and California.
